This site has been set up to provide information about the flying field situated near Sheen Gate, this is the only area that aeromodelling is allowed in Richmond Park. For more information on flying in Richmond Park please see The Field.
RPFF will now also host our Open Weather-station project. Formally known as Open Anemometer, with this open source project, we aim to create a weather-station which school children can build as a school project and set up to monitor their local weather conditions, either by hooking up to a PC or via a digital display. We are also creating schools packs for teachers to aid in teaching about weather and outside activities which encompass using the weather, Kite flying, Aeromodelling, to name a few. We hope that this will encourage the younger generation to pay a closer interest in their climate, along with getting them outside enjoying related activities. Trial Flights – Donations!
We have just received an over whelming donation from Mike,the proprietor of West Wales Models. Not only has he generously donated an ST Models Discovery and a Wot4 E, he’s also provided a Spektrum DX6i and a box of his fantastic LightSpeed batteries which will power our project for a very long time! All I can say is a big thanks from the team here at rpff.org and from all the people that sign up for our Trial Flights project! Thanks to Mike for a further donation of more of his LightSpeed Batteries, all our Trial Flights are now powered by Lightspeed Batteries!
Thanks to an amazing donation from DragonLabs we soon will have our first FPV (First Person View) airframe ready for flight. DragonLabs UK partner DragonLabs (EU) have supplied us with their latest Dragon On Screen Display (DOSD), this device works with a live video feed coming from the aircraft to which the DOSD overlays values for GPS, Speed, Current Heading, power usage and other important bits of information which helps control the aircraft. Another amazing feature of this device is its built in Return to Home function, flick a switch and the aircraft will fly to a preset location automatically! We will mainly be using this equipment to give lesser able bodied people a flying experience, using FPV technology, we can enable them to see a birds eye view of the world which makes all go “wow”, this is fully immersive!
Thanks to the generous people from FatShark, we soon will be able to provide an FPV (First Person View) experience, this is quite a new type of RC flying where the pilot see’s from the ‘cockpit’ with the help from an on board video camera and video headset. This is as close to flying a real ‘full size’ plane you can get, a thoroughly immersive experience. FatShark are the industry leaders when it comes to video goggles and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their help and generous donation.
Thanks also go to the owners of RobotBirds who have kindly donated a model to our project, this gives us further flexibility which we greatly need!
F3K World Championships
One of our local F3K Pilots, Mike Stern, came 3rd in the inaugural F3K World Championship held in Arboga – Sweden. Joseph Wurts (New Zealand) took first place.
Over all, the whole team took 10th place after a grueling 3 day competition which had some very challenging weather conditions, a fantastic tour de force from all involved - pitted against 27 nations Team New Zealand took first place. Congratulations to all who took part and made it a very thrilling competition.

I’m currently looking for a club in west london and found RPFF in the BMFA club lists.
I have had some previous training on a Hirobo Shuttle (only managed a steady hover before I starting university), but I am interested in learning to fly a model plane. Would you be able to tell me whether you have any membership spots open.
I already have all the necessary gear and a WOT 4 Foamie, and have registered with the BMFA.

Hi Deanen, I’ll email with some more information but will be very happy to help you get in the air. We are not a club but the flying site is open to all with insurance but it would be good for you to fly with us a few times so that you can build up some more experiance.
